N-400 Adjudication Process

Hi all,

I did some research and came across a N400 flow chart in the USGAO's (or U.S. Government Accountability Office) November 2005 report on USCIS's backlog reduction attempt. Although the flow chart is over 2 years old, it does confirm what some of us have been saying about when name check or FBI background check is initiated.

If you look at the chart, you will see that the FBI fingerprint request, the IBIS name check, and the FBI background (or name check) are done/initiated in sequence. So we all now know that our name check was initiated when we got our finger print requests. Not after our finger print results are received as some have indicated on here. Hope this helps.

We are basically playing the waiting game now, as they are just beginning to schedule folks for interviews this month. I have noticed that all new Interview letters have a either a Jan 2 or Jan 3 date on them... All DOs that were fast in processing show May 19, 2007 as their new date (no longer '7 months' tag), and I am assuming this is because Service Centers have been busy with entering applications and submitting IBIS/FBI name checks due to the massive backlog. We are now just starting to see people who applied June 2007 and after get interview notices.

Good luck to everyone. I hope we all hear some good news soon.

Thanks a lot lolali, I have never seen such a thing which really helps me being not patient.

God bless you

May 19th is actually just about 7 months, so they are still fairly accurate, the key word being "fairly". Thanks for the info, LolaLi.

I'm sorry Nimche - my intention wasn't to make you even more impatient. I just wanted to let everyone know that they are working on scheduling interviews, but go by priority date and DO availability. This was supposed to give us hope that our time was coming soon.

I also noticed this morning that more people from VSC (Newark and one NYC finally) have also gotten interview letters dated jan 5. This gives credibility to the fact that VSC is working on scheduling June/July applicants and are going in order of priority date. Hopefully they will get to August soon!

Barring name check hellhole, we should all become citizens this year. Once again, it's great that we have this support system. Thanks to this forum, I've learned more about the naturalization process than I even knew existed.
