Hi,
My wife passed the Civics and English of the citizenship interview on april 15nth 2008 in St.paul, Minnesota. The officer gave her a form at the end of the interview that decision cannot be made at this time. On the application there were a lot of changes since we filed the application likke we changed addresses, my wife got a new job etc. The interviewing officer asked her about her name and whether she wanted to change to my last name to which she replied she wants to keep her original name. she asked for her birth certificate to look at to check her maiden name which she didn't have.On the FBI info on the form there was a mistake she found that the height was 5 feet on the application and 5 feet 2 inches on the drivers license. Is this a big cause for rejection of the application? Thirdly we answered to Questions pertaining to her traffic ticket ( she got only one traffic ticket in June 2006) and answered Questions 15 -17 as a"Yes". Is this also a big concern for denial of her application. Please let me know what steps you would take and hope to hear your experiences.

first of all, is her N400 based on marriage?
are you a US citizen?

did your wife ever asked the IO why a decision could not be made, when they said so?
did he give any indication as to why?

I really think it would've been ok to ask that question in a decent manner.
Keeping maiden name is a totally normal thing to do, and more and more women do it all the time. this is 2008, not 1800's. so I don't think that has anything to do with it. (my wife also has her maiden name, and has a bunch of friends who kept their name, too, and all those couples are US citizens by birth!)

Does she remember any questions where she couldn't give a proper answer or the IO seemed dissatisfied with any of the answers?

minor traffic tickets, as it has been said here many times, is NOT a concern, so we can rule this out, too.

some others here with more experience will chime in soon, and together we will try to see if we can come up with a good guess as to why this might've happened.
also: i read here somewhere that it was normal to schedule interviews before name checks cleared. I don't know if this is still done, though.

I'm fairly sure that your wife's application has to be reviewed by a senior officer, which is a common procedure. She'll be getting her oath letter soon. As washburn1 pointed out, nothing that was changed on your wife's application is cause for denial.

Vorpal,
do you have any guesses/ideas as to reasons why it (or any applications, for that matter)would need reviewing after an interview though? Just curious.

From what I've read on this forum, every application is reviewed by 2 separate IOs, unless you're lucky enough to have a senior officer conducting your interview. This is a normal procedure and is not a cause to start worrying.

My wife had interview on Mar 19th. She answered everything correctly, passed english and civics test. Still the Officer gave her a letter saying "A Decision Cannot be made at this time". Interview Officer said all applications go thru another round of scrutiny with a senior officer and all she can do is to check 'Recommended for approval". Even if he/she checks "Recommended for approval" still your application can be rejected by the senior.

To cut the long story short within 2 weeks , my wife got Oath ceremeony letter for Apr 25th. This is a normal procedure, so dont worry.
