Hi All,

I took my oath ceremony today in Oakland, California, and became a US Citizen.

My son, who is 17 years old, has automatically become a US citizen

The problem is that my son is currently in India on a vacation and will be returning mid September. He is carrying his Green Card with him and his Indian passport.

Does this pose any problem? Will my son be able to re-enter the US with his Green Card?

I'm now a very worried parent :-(

thanks for your help.

Why not? Come back as scheduled with his GC and then apply for passport. After that then file N-600. Done

congratulations :) I have a question if I become a US citizen will my 2 years old son who live overseas become automatically a us citizen even if he doesn't have a green card ?

No he will not. Once you become a Citizen and file for him and he travels to US on a immigrant visa, upon entry he will become one though.

No, he did not automatically become a citizen. He doesn't become a citizen until he is back in the US with you (and he must be still under 18).

Yes, because he is not a citizen yet. For now, his only option is to return with the green card.

Jackolantern is right. You better hurry up and make sure he comes back in the US before he turns 18. He won't be a citizen until then. You should then apply for a US passport for him, passport card for backup, and if you can also apply for a certificate of citizenship (N-600).

Please open your own thread for your case, don't hijack this thread. It becomes very confusing for people to match responses to questions. In short, he won't become a citizen, all paths to citizenship for him go through some Green Card process.
