My Passport renewal after political asylum

Hello everyone,
I got political asylum in the US and am eligible to apply for GC soon. After obtaining GC, I am hoping to travel abroad but my passport from my native country has expired. Now, should I renew my passport here in the US through my embassy or should I apply for a travel document? which option would be wiser? I've heard people saying that using your passport of your native country while traveling is not really good and you might have problem at POE while returning. please suggest. thanks to all experts!
 
This has been discussed a LOT on this forum. It depends on your particular situation, and how comfortable you are renewing and using your passport.
 
Can you please provide me the link of the previous threads regarding such issue? As far as my situation is concerned, I have no problem renewing and using my passport from my native country. I am more concerned about its impact and consequences with USCIS and POE.
