My Name Check Cleared After 9 Months...

I am responding to your e-mail sent October 7, requesting status for an FBI Name Check.
A review of the FBI's Name Check Program database concerning xxxxxx revealed a request was received from the United States Citizenship and
Immigration Services (USCIS) on March 8, 2004 and it was completed on December 20, 2004. The results were forwarded to USCIS.

It seams that you came to know about the name check even before the FPing, is that related to 485 ?
Is that the status on 485.

Name check can be initiated by CIS anytime after 485 filing. For us they initiated after 1 week of ND.
It will clear in 1 day to 2 YEARS.
In my wife case --- 1 Day
In my case --- 9+ Months

After couple of E-mails, Faxes, and with God grace my Name check cleared on December 20th 2004(Last minute hope). Hoping for the approval before 31st December...

Hi,
I read in the forum that you did FOIA for 'No records' with FBI. My name check is pending for a long time. Please advise on the exact procedure. Do I need to contact FBI by submitting a FOIA request? I looked up in the fbi website and found instructions. Just want to confirm with you.

Send the above info to FBINNCP@ic.fbi.gov. requesting for the status of your name check.

Reason is that when FBI does a name check for you; they check different variations of your name, ie., first, last name; last, first name, different variations in spelling, etc. If any of the different variations in your name causes a hit then they have to rule you out as the person they are looking for.
the freedom of information request will only prove that there isn't a hit on your exact name.
Reason, I say this is that it was covered in FBI testimony of how they do the name check. Also, another poster got the FOIA results from FBI and showed it to the congressman. Congressman contacted uscis and told them that there was a no records and that they should approve his/her case. however, FBI came back with the different variations in name issue and that this doesn't show up in the FOIA request.
You are right. But atleast we can start asking them with that as proof. I did exactly and succeeded in 3 months. Not bad....Many people got stuck even for more than 12 months...

Name check is part of your I-485 process. It's a request sent by USCIS to FBI. This request could be sent by USCIS any time, usually it is sent with in 2 months from the ND date of I-485.

Name Check Pending since last 15 months
My Name Check is pending since Oct 04, 2003. Got email response once in oct 04 and another on Dec 29, 04. Both mails say case is still pending. Really I don't know what to do now. God knows when they are going to clear it.
Any good suggestions are welcome.
