My case history:
I am on H1B & my wife on H4 Visa.
Till May 2007: My Labor & I-140 were approved & I485 was in pending status & for my wife no I485 was filled.
In Jun 2007: We filled EAD & I-485 for my wife in first week of June & my lawyer received acknowledgment notice & we received her fingerprint notice for next month.
Today: Good news, incomplete: I received an email notification that my I485 have been approved. Non-for my wife.

In regards to above changes to my file I have few queries for both on my status change & on the status of my wife:

My Status change:
* For officially changing my status from H1B to Permanent resident, what are the subsequent steps I need go thought?
* What are document I should be expecting from USCIS, Like Greencard, approval notice, etc.?
* Do I need to send my passport for any kind of stamping? where & when?

My Spouse's Status:
* Since she is on H4 Visa & her I485 is pending, what will be her status when my status gets changed to Permanent resident?
* Will her H4 Visa status go void when I change over to Permanent residency (Greencard)?
* Is there anything that we need to do in order for her stays in US to continue to be under valid status & she continues her stay in US?

For your status change:
1- As your case has been approved, your status is now officially changed as far as USCIS is concerned. Stuff you can consider doing is a- updating the I-9 form with your employer that your employment eligibility is based now on permanent residency, and b- if applicable, going to the Social Security Office to exchange your social security card with a new one that does not have the "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION" notice. Wait to get your actual green card before doing the above.

2- You should expect a welcome package, as well as either the card itself or a notice to appear at a local USCIS office for stamping.

3- Unless they ask you to appear, no you do not need to send any passport or anything; they will just mail you the green card and you'll be set.

Spouse:
1- She is not in any status now, since you are no longer H-1B, but is considered as "lawfully present" due to a pending I-485. She must now use Advanced Parole to travel.
2- See #1
3- No, see #1, she will remain "lawfully present" because of her pending I-485.

your wife's I-485 was filed long after yours. did you lawyer said still you will get you GC together?

H1B and not working. What options do I have?

When did you file your I-485? After how many days/months/years did you file your wife's I-485?

I am in a similar boat. I could not file my wife I-485 due to status not been maintained. She was on H1B and did not worked. Now I am speaking with an attorney to convert from H1B to H4. I don't know how difficult it is. She do not have any paystubs.

What would be happen if my I-485 is approved before I could apply I-485? I am currently on H1B.
