hi

Im new to this site. Ive been researching online for days trying to find answers and Im still confused. This forum looks like a great place to get answers.

I lost my wallet 2 months ago, in my wallet was my green card, social security card, DL and other important stuff. I was able to get my DL back somehow but what Im confused on is how to get my GC and SS card back. Im wondering wether to apply to replace my GC or just go for my citizenship. Either route im confused on what kind of proof or evidence the USCIS will need. I dunno how long it will take? My dilemma is that I can't get a job now because I foolishy quit my job. Im in a bind! Any answers or comments will be much appreciated.

I went to the SSA office, they said I can't get a replacement card unless I have proof of lawful residency in the US. Something like a temporary alien card.

I-485

Do I have to apply for the I-485 to get that notice? CIS website says I have to apply for it and pay the fee. Im not an immigrant, I had a GC but it was stolen. Are there other ways to prove to the SSA that I am a legal resident?

Im sorry for the confusion. My family came to the U.S. when I was 4 years old
As far as I know Ive always had a GC. I don't think I have a passport, but I need to ask my parents. Should I just apply for citizenship and then get my SS card? 6-9 months? or apply to get a replacement GC? which would be the easier route?

One last question to Joe who have been most helpful. If I can't find any of those documents and just applied for my replacement GC, what proof will they need from me if all I have is my drivers license?

Thanks alot Joe and all who replied. My situation sucks! I won't be out on my ass in the streets but Im stressing over this. I feel better now, thanks again guys.
