My girlfriend went to DV interview.

Hello folks,

I am a US citizen and currently sponsoring my girlfriend in Tashkent, UZ. She had won the DV lottery and just completed her DV interview with the consul where she had some tough questioning. It was interesting because I had tried to mail her copies of the I-134 forms and the FEDEX (final third mailing using intl priority) reached her a few hours after the interview. The first two copies through US Postal were lost and one of them even had a tracking number! (Unreliable postal at the hub in Moscow...)

My gal told me that after the interview, they took her papers including all of our e-mail correspondance. They didn't seem to care too much about the I-134 that I had scanned for her as well. In fact, most of the questioning seemed to focus on our relationship? I wonder what the reason was. After the interview was finished, they informed her to call them back in 1-2 days and returned her passport.

Rather confusing but I presume that this is administrative processing? Or background check step?

I don't have a clue but I think that I ought to be optimistic. I think that my sponsorship of her will be good and I have a fairly good job and reasonable savings.

I hope that one can clarify my situation about what is going on. Thanks!

AW

Looks like today she received the original copies of the I-134 finally! That version was mailed on 1/18/07 and received on 2/15/07. Wow, what a long time :(

However, I don't know yet whether or not she needs to provides these new documents to the consulate yet?

It would be a good idea to take the original notarized I-134 to the consulate, and also ask them about the status of her case: was she approved, or the case is pending for some reason?

It seems like the case is pending at the moment. She will call them up tomorrow and if necessary, she will bring the original forms accordingly.

...Also, she needs to find out (politely) why her case is pending, maybe by asking them if there are anything missing documents, and if there is a way that she can help. Knowing why her case is pending will help with the uncertainty factor.
Questions on her relationship to you are totally irrelevant since her application is not "family-based". She should not be questioned at all on that. The only main requirements for DV are "higher education" and financial security of some kind. Of course individual Consular Officers will proceed as they please regardless, as long as their decision is not based on a misunderstanding of the case. That is why I would personally want to know the reason for her case being pending.
Having said all this, I'm sure everything is beind dealt proficiently, and it's just a matter of the very common security check.

Best of luck to her

Yeah, the only thing that I can think of that could be missing are the original 1-134 forms which she now just got in the mail today. Perhaps she needs to bring those with her to the consulate...

I got word that my girlfriend got 2 weeks for administrative processing. What are some potential reasons for it taking awhile? Also, do divorced females get administrative processing? I presume background check?

Also should I have her drop off the original version of the I-134 even if the embassy doesn't ask for it?

Hi,
Right, it sounds like a security check, I wouldn't worry. And yes, it won't hurt to deliver the original I-134 anyway.

Thanks for your encouragement. Your advice has been invaluable. :)

My girlfriend just called up the consulate today and they told her 2 weeks. Apparently they didn't want to talk with her when she asked about coming over with the I-134 form original. Hmm... why are they terse?

Update: My girlfriend called up the embassy today and got word that it will be another week. Hard to be patient :) but graciously hoping that it will finalized soon! :)
