Hello Gurus,
I went to India and returned back to US on AP on 12th october 03. I flew with British Airways.

At Chennai
BA at chennai asked if I had GC ? I said AP, they had a look and gave it back to me.

At London Heathrow
Before boarding one BA rep double checked my AP and allowed me to board the flight.

Immigration at US.
I gave the AP and passport to the Immigration officer and the immigration officer asked if I was sponsered by employer. I said yes. I gave one AP, but the officer asked for all the AP's (3 no's). She stamped on all the APs and the passport and I-94 with a parole rubber stamp. She wrote the following in the stamp. A# number and she also wrote the expiry date 11th October 2004. She also scribbled (voided) my previous H1B visas.

My questions here is , my EAd and AP expires on 04/07/2004. But what does it mean that 11th october 2004 put by Immigration officer at POE? Does it mean that my AP is valid till 11th of Oct 2004?

Please let me know what it means and any suggesstions.
Thanks,

can you pl tell me which was your port of entry and how long it took you for the so called secondary inspection. I will be using AP for India trip
thanks

Its ok

You get exactly one year AP stamp at the airport. It is just normal procedure. Even after 11 oct 2004 you dont have to worry. They think it should not take more than a year to get approval. This same question asked by some body at Murthy chat and she only told this. But if you want to go to India again you can use current AP untill your AP expires on 04/07/2004. You can re enter "n" number of times before expiry. They take photo copy of the AP which you have.

Bottom line AP (1 year validity) is multiple entry visa untill expiry date.

Aravind,

Which US airport you came while returning from Chennai? Did you go for secondary inspection? How much time it took you to complete the process at the Immigration Counter?

Thanks!

Port of Entry

Chicago OHare Port of entry. It took some 10 to 15 min extra than the normal person with valid H1B visa.

TO MSR01,
does that mean that I have to apply for New AP since it is expiring on April 04 than waiting till Oct 04 as it was written by Immigration officer?

Get your AP renewed before the expiry date on it, the parol stamp date on passport mean nothing, they normally stamp a date of one year in the future even if the AP expires in few months.

From your post it doesnt seem like but did you go to secondary inspection ? or the 1st imm officer stamp your passport ?

thanks

No secondary inspection

I had no secondary inspection. All my stamping and checks were done by the one immigration officer.
