So I went to the local INS office to pick up I94 card by showing the judge's lettter granting asylum.
When I was there, I was asked by one of the agent to show me ID card and it has my old name, the name I used to enter this country .
My real name is in the judge's letter and the gov knows which one is my real name and cleared evverything including backround.

So I was told that go out cos you don't need i94 card, apply for work permit card and then if you need i94 card, come back with that EAD card that will have my real name or the name that matchs my name in the judge's letter.

I explained to her I am not required by law to apply for ead card and i was told by the judge to make an appoitment with this office and go pick up i94 card by showing the letter from the court.
Then I was asked to speak with a supervisor who is also an agent and he said the same thing you dont need i94 card, he further said u r dangerous cos u have different names. I told him you don't wanna accept the judge's letter which has my real name?
He also said why you need i94 card so fast and didn't want to issue i94 card .
He said just apply for ead card and that is same like i94 but i also told him i dont need to apply as i am automatically authorized to work and he refuses,
So I got bit mad and unhappy and told him ok can you give me your id and name and info so I can give ur info to my lawyer and I tell my lawyer you are refusing to issue me i94 card. He then said ok you have pictures with u?
I answred yes and gave him 2 pics and issues me i94 card that says valid till april 22 2008. He put the date one year only there, I got asylum on april 23 2007.
I didn't wanan argue and left. I know it should say valid indefenitely.
I will now talk to my lawyer about this expereince and show them the i94 card that has one year validation.
I really felt bad how they treat an asylee.

I never got an I-94  I got an infopass appointment right after I got my asylum (April 2006) and the officer told me that I don't need one. I didn't insist since she told me that I can just show the judge's letter as proof of my status. The only time it was a hassle was when I went to change my social security card, but at the end everything worked fine..
I'm going to travel in June. Hopefully then I will finally get an I94

Mr. action6:

The immigration officers are right in saying that you don’t need to get I-94. The letter from the court saying you given asylum and the I-94 essentially say the same thing. I thing your problem has its bases on fact that you have two documents with completely different names. What you really need to get more documents of the same name. For example, even though you don’t have to get work permit, I think you should get one because it will help you get other benefits like drivers license. These days to get some benefits you will need at five documents with your photo though this may vary state across the states. And having a court document and ID with different names will give you hard time unless you find a helpful individuals. In my case, when I was getting my ID they gave me hard time even though I had more than five documents to prove my status, so be careful and work hard to get the benefits you need. And be patient as work through the bureaucracy.

Today I again went to the iNS office to tell the officer that the date on my I94 they gave me the day before is wrong cos it says valid for one year-april22,2008. I told her it should say indefinitely. The senior officer told me that the date on the i94 is correct and it is valid for one year although I told her the law says it should say indefinitely. She told me you can apply for EAD card and green card after the one year but I again told her I don't need to apply for EAD card and I know i can apply for green card one year later.
So They didn't fix the date to indefinitely from one year and I told her I will check with my lawyer again.

I went to one of my case worker and he told me it is ok if it says valid for one year and don't worry about it as judge's letter alone is enough for you.

What you think about this? Who is right ? me or the local INS office where I went to pick my the i94 card?

Wow! My experience was totally different. Which office is this? I am in New York. I was also granted asylum by immigration judge in January. A month ago, I received a letter from DHS to go pick up my I-94. I went, gave in my appointment letter. I just had to fill up the G-325A form and within hours I had my I-94. It had no expiration date. It was stamped saying asylum granted by IJ and the date it was granted.
