Dear friends,

How are you doing?

We are here in US and have thought of doing something for India
at some point in time in our life and have never got a right
opportunity for that.

Here is a good opportunity. TEAM is a very active organization that is focussing on our Poor schools in Tamil Nadu.

TEAM is a 100% non-profit organization.

I am attaching a small writeup on TEAM. Also visit the homepage at http://www.indiateam.org.

I have been a member of this team and am very impressed by this.

CONCEPT OF TEAM
===============

1. What 10.0$ a month can do?.

...May be a MOVIE or a HAIRCUT!!

But we achieved something more than a haircut. Just go through this concept to know what we have achieved so far by TEAM of friends.

1. 100 people joined together on April 1, 2000 and launched a TEAM by contributing 10.0$ each and collecting 1000.0$. We thought, thought and thought about what to do with this money. One person among 100 suggested that why don't we buy things that are absolute necessary for a poor elementary school in India and distribute them through any one of our parents. Perfectly worked! - By spending the cost of a 'MOVIE' we equipped two poor schools and around 200 poor village students are enjoying the infrastructure provided by us.

2. Since everyone was terribly excited, from April, 2000 onwards, the same 100 people contribute 10.0$ every month and equip 2 schools, approximately 200 students, through any one of our beloved parents in India.

3. We had been doing this for 9 months with 100 people, after that 200 more friends joined us and now TEAM is 300 people.

4. Now we get 300 * 10 = 3000 $ and equip 6 schools approximately 1200 students per month.

5. Since it has become so successful, we thought of adding 100 more to this existing regular contributors and equip 8 schools per month, approximately 1400 students per month and 15000 students per year.

6. We proved that more than money, a group of dedicated people can also impact just by the cost of a haircut.

7. I have been part of TEAM for more than an year. I am really impressed with that concept. More details can be obtained from http://www.indiateam.org/

Your money will not go anywhere but to the poor schools Becoz you will be the one incharge of suppling the neccesities.. You will be co-ordinating with your parents.. Think abt your home place where you grew up?..

I suggest you to see all the projects done so far by TEAM by going to the website.

Why are you interested in only schools in Tamil Nadu, why can't you look at the situation in all the schools in other parts of India.

Bihar, UP, MP, AP.......etc.

Actually this organisation is started from Tamil Nadu. If you are a memebr and if you are from other states from Tamil nadu, you will be obvisiously working out for your state schools.. Becoz that is gonna be your and your parents project and you could invest the money into any school you want in india as you are the project manager for that project...

So Dear friend, It is a very much possible..

There are many organizations

that do the same. And not just for kids in TN. Why do you want to create another one? CRY does the same things that u want to do and they do it nation wide. So why not join them? If you are particular about TN, give to "Udavum Karangal".

For charites, a large org is preferred cuz people want some security that their money is not misused.

Please let us not question him , why not in other parts of India etc. He is doing some thing some where - let him do. Else take inspiration and try to do in your own way.

Yes there may be many similar organisations, but this contributes in its own capacity. After all it is doing good. If it really becomes big, there may be merger of organisations :) too.

But can you explain me in brief how will it work for gujarat if i am the only one gujarati in your org.?

This is my experience with new charities. One of my college buddies started a charity to help people in India. We tried hard but unfortunately many did give cuz they thought it was a college fund. There is always the question of credibility. Then there were religious affiliations. Its hard to get funds if you are collecting for a cause that is very similar to an established organization. In this case CRY is very similar. I have seen what they do and they do a fine job. I have seen what "Udavum Karangal" does. My advice is to join with a bigger one or get support from them. The satisfaction is the same!

American Gujju: I don’t think he meant it in an anti-tamil way. It was more like AT LEAST Tamil people should help Tamil children. If you feel like giving, give it to a Gujju organization or anything that you are comfortable with. Its good to know that you feel like giving :)

If you are feeling extra generous you can contribute to the "PatienceGC 911 Turbo" fund.
 
Let me explain.

When I started looking at helping the needy, I was bit scared to send money to the organisation thinking that the money would be not used properly..

Just see How TEAM works..

If you enroll to donate money, then you will be the member of TEAM. And the money has to be utilised only for suppling school necessities.. As of now that is the rule and if we grow this will also extend to other areas too.

1. Every Quarterly, there will be a meeting at CA(U don't have to be present), and Kids pick 8 members depending on the money we collected.. If more, more members be selected.
2. Money will be given to each 8 memebers(right now $500 is given to everyone as we just have 300 members and each paid $120 PA).
3. Once you have been selected by that pick, then money will be given to you.
4. Then you have to decide on the projects meaning wherever you want to spend on and however you want to spend on will be decided by you and your parents..
5. Then your parents will go the school selected and find out what they need.
5. Once you get the list, you have to buy the necessary and hand it over to the schools
6. Once that's done, you have to submit the receipts, proof of doucments that you really did that like getting a letter from the school headmasters or something like that..
7. Show the proof to the other memebers, either scanning the documents and send it to the TEAM management..
8. That way every members will know abt what you did.
9. So that means the charity will under your control.
10. U control what needs to be spent on..
11. And every members trust you..
12. U feel really responsble for the project.
13. Ultimately you know where the money was spent
14. Have a good feeling and Relax
15. Start the next project when you name is selected again.

Why are you posting in this forum?

Don't you think of national interest. Gonna do not be so cheap as a charitable members. Children from other states also belong to Mother India including TamilNadu children. I agree that your friends have done a good job by contributing 3000$ for schools in India (wherever it is). Why are you so much interested only in Tamil Nadu. Are you ashamed of knowing about the bad situation in states like Bihar...etc. If you are so much narrow minded, do not post such messages in this forum.
 
Good start, idea is good...
As many people suggested it can be extended to other parts of India.
And thinking about TN is not bad, there are other parts of the world where people die with hunger.
But it depends on one how he wants to benefits others...

Keep it up babu....I am sure you will get new members...

I would like to join it and represent the state of UP.

Instead of beating up on this guy (who is doing a valuable service by devoting time for selfless gains) , could you start something like this in Bihar etc , and then spend some time to find the guys . Tamilnadu is part of India too, and if it grows we all grow just like Bihar , UP, Rajasthan etc . It is very easy to criticize anyone but very difficult to do some good .
If you cannot do good , please do not prevent others from doing so.

First thing I suspect this great VigneshBabu. Name is like a guy but look at her/his second message, it says "I am not he but she".

I hope this is not a foster daughter / son of Jayalalitha Amma! and hope this fund does not go to her Amma's account in the name of Tamil children. Therefore Sai and my other Tamil friends ! be careful funding $10 each to this so called charity. If you are so much interested you can go ahead contributing, BUT DO NOT POST ANY MORE MESSAGES IN THIS BOARD AS IT DOES NOT BELONG TO TAMIL ORGANIIZATION.

Off course TamilNadu is part of India, but you guys think in other way it is your stupidity. When others mention about Bihar, Gujarat, UP etc, you narrow minded people think TamilNadu is not part of India, but remember MGR, Amma Jayalalitha, RajaniKanth are not from TamilNadu.

I do not know when all the aliens will learn to be from one country.

By the way god only knows whether $3000 collected by VigneshBabu (or Amma VigneshBabi) reaches the school.

I donated two electric fans to a school in poor condition, The principal of the school took one fan home as I came to know later.
But that does not stop me donating.
I feel bad by this act of principal but he is a very low paid as well, anyway my money helped somebody poor.

There are so many people need help. If you do not trust others than you can find your own ways to help.

And babu is working on a great cause, nobody will be rich with putting so much of efforts just to fill the pocket with donated money.

As babu already explained, all members are informed, who got the help ? and how ?

Gonna knowingly, you have supported a principal to carry a fan to his home, and still you want to donate, guys like you are the cause for Bharat being Number 2 ranking in corruption in the world.

However no body stops you donations to your Amma VigneshBabi, but why this Amma is trying to bringing her advertsement by identifying herself as a guy and be careful !!!this might be another principal. This is not just a fan, but already she has collected $3000.
