Hello

Well, I went to my Oath Ceremony Yesterday morning. I am now officially a citizen, it feels so good to have all of the paperwork, worry , anticipation and frusteration finally over! The ceremony went very good. It was a little unorganized but I think that was because of its large size, there were 665 people from some 63 countries. It said to arrive there at 9:00 sharp, but the actual ceremony didnt start until 11:00. We were checked at the door by an officer and he asked for the GC as well as our Oath letter, he then told us to go to a table where our certificates were waiting with another officer and we were asked to see if everything on it was correct. At which point we were ushered into the big auditorium to await the ceremony. It started at 11:00 and lasted until 12:00. Each country was asked to stand and be recognized, we said the oath, pledge of allegiance there were a few keynote speakers and that was that. Ushered out to the table in which we got our certificates picked them up and yah AMERICAN CITIZEN!! There is also the option of getting your passport done there that day. I opted not to .....

Timelines again::::

Congrats Casawi
One quick question. Does each person have to repeat the oath all by himself before the judge or do they say 'all of you please repeat this' I mean group repeating or stand in line before judge and do this 'I do thing' one by one ?

I understand from your post that all do at one time when someone repeats. Which indirectly means even if you just move lips and do not say it loud it is OK. Or if you say it inside but not even move lips it is fine :) Thanks and congrats again.

Congrats!!

I have a quick question, once you take oath and get your naturalization certificate, is it legal to travel out of the country on your old passport or do you HAVE to wait for the new passport before you travel.

Thanks.

You cannot travel with old passport. After oath, you must get new US passport to travel. There are expedited services if you want to travel in a hurry.

YES it is possible to travel on old passport provided your country has a dual nationality. However you may have difficulty entering back to US. It is advised that you get your new US passport as soon as possible.

Congratulations to Casawi.

Every body read the Oath loudly and you should when you are taking the Oath. In my ceremony there were some people who were there to see their loved ones take the oath. The Judge noticed that few people were not reading the Oath. Then she asked how many visitors are here to see the ceremony? Just to see who is reading and who is not?

Hmmm.. For countries which do not support dual citizenship, one may be able to leave with old passport, but, it is illegal, as the original passport is no longer valid due to oath of allegiance to USA.
