My brother wants to join Army. He is on F1. it seems recruiters doesnt know the procedure as they sent him to go apply for citizenship first. Anybody here is aware of the general procedure.... steps to follow.
Thanks

The preliminary recruiting begun this week in NYC. Also, note that there is a very specifc list of items the applicants must meet to qualify (i.e. certain language (spanish speakers are not eligible to apply), only 1500 recruits will be accepted, educational requisites, etc)

If you do not meet those qualifications for this pilot you must be a permanent resident.

I am sorry, I am trying to steal some space in this thread.

Can anyone help me find the link to apply for the Army? I am acting lazy, but its faster to get answer from this forum than to do own research.

Thanks in advance!

As far as I remember the article I have read F1 visa holders are not one of eligible visa catagories on this law.I remember asylees, H1 and some more but not student visa holders.
Double check it.

I suggest u contact the any army recruiter directly and get the answer directly from the horses mouth. They would be in the best position to give you the answer you are seeking. Here's the general army recruitment page to start with...http://www.army.mil/join/ As a shameless plug, also give these guys a call...marines.com

I guess they are not the horse mouth :D, is there any supporting document for the new law that I can present to them why they say "Sorry, you don't have Green Card" :(

or the more interesting thing that I heard once from a recruiter after I told him that I'm a new asylee "Go apply for citizenship, then come to us":confused::confused:

so any documents supporting the new law will be appreciated.

Since this question relates to F-1 issues, I am moving it to the appropriate forum.

Contact Department Of Defense

I am suggesting to contact Department Of Defense (DOD) regarding this law.
Any other branch of military are cluless about it, DOD anounces this to the public and I am sure army, navy and etc don't even know what it this about and even if they do, the details are difficult to diggest.

good decision since no answer from asylum members :(

UInfortunatly recommended approval are not included in this law.It was saying asylee which means, final approved asylees. In their eyes if final approval is pending are not eligible yet for the fact that asylees might be ordered to be removed or deported at anytime and it will cause conflict betwen DOD and other branch of government like USCIS or ICE or others.Hopefully you will be approved for asylum first.
