Some people say that a sign that the decision is made and it only waiting for final review before sending the decision.
My asylum case status changed from decision pending to application pending 5 months ago and still waiting for a decision till now. The last time I asked them about 3 months ago they told me they are waiting for the background check to be completed.
By the way my case in Chicago. I applied in 2015 and interview in 2019.
