Multiple state medical licenses

Hi
A question for the forum. Are there any folks here who maintain medical licenses in different states as a back up. I am thinking of getting medical licenses in different states in the general area of the country where I intend to find a job. Do you think that is a good idea or should I wait and find a job first and then only get the license for the state. I know cost is a factor, but having a medical license in the state definitely increases one's chances of the employers looking at your application favorably.

Thanks.

What most people in our shoes do is apply for FCVS service through FSMB. It costs but is cheaper than getting many licenses. It creates a dtatbase of your info/med school verification being the most important and most states accept FCVS and then the process of getting a license is much faster.

When you have 2 licenses and apply for another, the new state will ask you to provide a letter of good standing from the previous 2 state med boards just to be sure you are not a crook. The state med boards will charge you $10+ for the letter and it can take anything between 1 and n days. Now if you succeed to get 48 licenses the next one would really require some leg work and financing!

You might want to establish a profile with the federation of state medical boards 'federal credentials verification service'. They verify your medical school education and your residency and store it in a standardized file. That way, when you apply for a license these two usually time-consuming steps can be cut out. 40 medical boards accept the FCVS profile, some even require it.

IT costs something like $600 and takes maybe 5-6 months to complete. But once you have it, they can send out a profile within 4 weeks.

I would not get any medical licenses you don't need. They are a hassle to maintain and with every license you get it is becoming harder to get another one.
