Multiple N-470

I am a green card holder working abroad for a US employer on a N-470 but will be laid off shortly. Can I pursue an opportunity with another US-based employer and get them to file a N-470 on my behalf?

Is there anything that prevents back-to-back N-470 applications in this manner? Is my presence in the USA required while filing the N-470?

If you do not return when the authorized employment ends (which is what you requested initially), you will lose the protection that you had. Don't try it. In addition, the situation you describe would probably cast doubts on whether the first N-470 was correct to begin with.

NOTE: I am not going into great detail here because it has been done before. Please don't argue until AFTER you read all the law on this subject.

Thank you for the helpful response. I'm having difficulty locating any decisions on case law pertaining to multiple N-470s. I would appreciate any pointers. I do understand the N-470 requires me to return when employment with the sponsor ends.

However, one thing to note: I am looking to file the second N-470 *BEFORE* I am officially laid off. So, ideally, I would have it filed before authorized employment ends. Would this help?

Your problem is not really with "multiple N-470", it's that your plan goes against the essential intention of the N-470, which is to facilitate situations where a US company decides to send an LPR employee overseas for an extended time, and the employee returns to the US soon after the overseas assignment has ended. They (USCIS) expect you to be preparing to move back to the US after job termination, not be looking for another overseas job.

You can go ahead and apply for the N-470 with that other company and see what happens, but it probably will be denied, and if denied the months you spend living and working outside the US after losing your existing job will be detrimental to your continuous residence for naturalization.
