multiple H1B filings

I filed for a H1B under cap through a small consulting company back in April. The application got picked up in MS Students quota and is still pending approval. In the meantime, I got a pretty good offer in a University as assistant professor. I will start working there on CPT initially and I have asked the University to file for a H1. I now want to cancel the original H1 that was filed through the consulting company. Can I do that? Should I do that? Does it matter if multiple employes file for H1B with different job responsibilities? Please advice..
