Moving after filing N-400

Hi,

My N-400 application is pending at Charlotte, NC. The receipt date is July, 2004 while the current processing date at Charlotte, NC is July, 2003.

I already completed my fingerprinting in September 2004.

I have the option to move to Chicago, IL or to continue here at my present address which falls under the Charlotte office jurisdiction. The Chicago office is processing August 2004 applications.

I'm wondering if I should move to Chicago, IL or continue here. If I move to Chicago, my citizenship should be processed faster since they are processing August 2004 applications. However, I've heard that file transfers between local district offices can take a long time and can be a bad experience.

Note: Chicago, IL falls under NSC while Charlotte, NC falls under TSC.

Is this true? What do you suggest?

Thanks for all your inputs.

I moved to Chicago from Birmingham AL in March 2003. It took the Chicago USCIS office until October 2003 to obtain my file.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply.

When did you get your interview letter from them? And for what date was your interview scheduled then?

Thanks!

How this works.

I did applied my N-400 in DC with PD august 16th, 2004. Lets say i found a new job in Chicago area and like to move there. How this will effect my N-400? so far i have not recieved fingerprint notice.
If i move to chicago my priority date will remain August 16th? or new date when my file will transfer to chicago? If my PD remain same (Aug 16th) thats means i checked online status and chicago is processing Aug 19th,2004 for N-400. this means i will have my fingerprins ASAP as well as interview in chicago area?

I had my naturalization interview right before I moved from B'ham to Chicago.

I had my interview in Atlanta on March 18th 2003, and I was told my name check was not in yet so no decision could be made at that time. I told the officer I was moving to Chicago end of the month and she sighed and said make sure you change your address. Several inquires followed and I learnt in December 2003 that my file had been moved to Chicago office in October but "due to enhanced security procedures" they were unable to complete processing of my case at that time. Many inquiries later and with the help of Senator Durbin's office I learnt in October 2004 that my name check was still pending, so I followed Rahul's advice and got my name check cleared in December 2004 and am now awaiting re-fingerprinting.

Anyways, it took the Chicago office 7 months (March 2003 to October 2003) to obtain my file.
