Hi,

I am in consulting and move from project to project. I will aplly my N-400 in Sept at CA service center. If I move out of CA to say NJ, is there a way my case will be trasnferred to VT service center, or atleast if I can go for fingerprinting and interview in NJ so that I wouldn\'t have to make trips to CA just for fingerprinting and then the 2 interviews

Do Not Push Your Luck

INS is a slow dragon. If you aply and move and expect them to transfer your papers in 2 years you are talking some sense. If you expect them to transfer your papers in 6 months to an years time.. does not sound realistic.
Good Luck. best suggestion is to leave your papers at Cal.

Hi Mark, You have to physically reside for three months in that
District/state wherefrom you are choosing to apply.

change of address/jurisdiction

yes, you must reside in a district for at least 3 months for that district to assume jurisdiction for the processing of your N-400. If you move to another jurisdiction after filing, after that 3 months to establish jurisdiction, you may send a notice of change of address to the service center where you originally filed the N-40. You should include a copy of the notice of receipt to ensure your change of address letter will get to your file. Since some of the smaller districts are quicker at getting to their fingerprints, interviews, and naturalization oath, moving out of California might actually benefit you as some of the smaller districts are taking about 6 months from filing to oath.
