Mother's Green Card

I am a US citizen & my parents got green cards in Jan 2009. They left for their home country in April 2009, since then they never returned due to my father’s medical conditions. They don’t have the medical here in US that time so they have no choice but to leave for their home country for cheaper medical services.

In May 2012 my father passed away & mother is left alone in our home country. Is it possible for her to travel on the green card without any problem? It’s being 2 ½ years since they left US. Is there any way she can travel on same green card or do I have to surrender the existing one & apply all over again?

Please advice. Thanks for your time in advance.

She could try to get a returning resident visa (SB-1) via form DS-117.

If that fails, you will need to file a new I-130 for her provided that you are age 21 or older.
