Anyone that has completed cp in Montreal between sept-Dec, I have a question. Your A#, cover page on the document package the consulate gives you. Does it start with several zero\'s, mine is A00048993. INS says they have never heard of such number and it should start with a 4 or 7, with at most one zero. Didi the consulate make a mistake....if othgers in this time frame also have this I\'ll feel at ease.....my A# does sound strange but I didn\'t want to ask any questions if you know what I mean...not the nicest staff working at that place.

it is what it is

Mine was 055-xxx-xxx. This is the number on my green card. The cover page of the visa just had 55-xxx-xxx. When I called the ins to find out where my green card was they said they have never heard of an A number that started with 55. The bottom line is that they do not know.

The cover page of the visa you have has the number in the top right hand corner. It is not hand written it is a numbered sheet. If this is the number at the top of the page then you are fine.

I did my CP on Aug

dr_z,

On my cpver page there is an IV-#, covered so it can not be photocopied, below is the A#, they are different numbers. IV starts with 5##########, and A000#####. My concern is consualte made a mistake when they gave me an A #, those poeple back there are very un professional they made so many mistakes on my form.

Should I double check with consulate or will that create more problems.

I looked at mine

there is an IV number. This is the number the state department assigned you. The A number is from the consulate.

I would call the consulate and ask them. Tell them you are tracking the card and the person at the INS office told you the number was wrong and suggested you call them to confirm.

There phone number is hard to get....but I have it.....When you listen to the recording it will tell you they only take calls between x-y. It will then put you on hold regardless of when you call. Do not wait unless you are calling between x-y as they will not answer.

Here is the number....514-398-9695 then press 6 and then ext 383.

let us know what they say.

dr_z,

I called the consualte and they said the A# was correct and that ins should call them (the consualte) if they have questions or think otherwise. I have little confidence in the operator at the consulate, maybe hired hand or same person in booth when you pay..they know nothing. I hope A# is just randomly generated by consulate, although it is put on green card, seems they should put something more official like the IV# from the state department on the green card. INS says they made my card and should get it soon, with that crazy A#, operator said she\'s never seen that kind of number before that they ALWAYS start with 4 or 7, she\'s been there for 18 years!!

call on monday

and speak to someone else at the consulate. See what they say. If you get the same person on the phone tell them you called back the INS and they told you to call back to the consulate.

My gut feel tells me that the consulate is correct. Your A number is the number they gave you. I think that the person at the INS does not know what they are talking about. 18 years....mine starts with 55, not a 4 or a 7!

Keep me posted.

If they did do it delibertly I believe I have good reason to dispute and ask for coreection to be made. I was very polite and find hard believe to would do such a thing.
