Hello,

Iam just about to apply for I-485, AOS. We have a 2 weeks old baby and my wife breast-feeds him. Is it okay for her to take the MMR, Varicella and Tetanus vaccines? Iam seeing contradicting opinions online and hence not able to make a decision one way or the other. Could somebody please advise? Thank you!

Since you have 2 weeks baby they will agree the mother shouldn't be vaccinated, I heard medically its not good if she is nursing. check your physician... and you have strong reason not get vaccination for your wife....
My friend was in same situation and dr didn't give vaccination for MMR or Tetanus..but it depends upon the Dr as it varies place to place...

Other best way to avoid is, go to your physican to test the blood for MMR,Tetanus.. If she is already immune then take the Blood report to uscis dr... uscis dr just needs a proof if you are already immune or not... Only glitch is blood report might be 2-4 days late,... Thats what i did..most of indians are immune to MMR..not sure for tetanus/deptheria...

good luck..hope this helps

For a professional opinion ask your pediatritian. He should be able to give you a definite response.

Our baby was 6 mos old and breastfeeding was not his primary meal, however my wife took the vaccination and did not stop breastfeeding.
According to Center for Disease control, (http://www.cdc.gov/breastfeeding/recommendations/vaccinations.htm) it should be safe. The source of info is pretty reliable in my opinion. But then again... who knows anything for sure when it comes to medicine.
If it helps make your feel better, have your wife pump a 2 day supply before taking the vaccination. The body should clear itself in 2 days.
