Missing Interview date

Folks - I am expecting my interview in March and have international travel planned then.

1. What happens if you miss the interview date? Can I just go on any other day (for e.g. FP notice says - "x" date or any Wednesday after the date) or do I have to reschedule interview date?

2. If I have to reschedule, what is the approximate wait time? My DO is Garden City, NY.

You can not do walk-in. You will need to request a re-schedule. In the last few months on this board, I have seen only 1 instance of a walk-in interview, but that poor guy was ambushed for the interview as I recall.

Approximate wait times will depend on your DO. If you are expecting a March interview while we are in early January (2 months), I would say any reschedule request will put this out 2-3 months from the date you send the request.

Don't just "miss" the interview. You have to send the interview letter back to DO and ask for reschedule. You cannot do walk-in interview. The IL says clearly that if you don't show up for interview, no further action will take in your case.

My wife rescheduled her interview because of timing issues: sending kids to school and then driving 2 hours to DO. DO rescheduled her interview from 8AM to 11AM on the same day.

I guess you need to provide your travel plan to the DO so the rescheduled date will not fall into your travel again.
