Hi,

Want to check if anyone out here had a similar experience. We completed the oath ceremony yesterday and got the US citizenship certificate. I was too happy to notice that my middlename was not complete in the certificate. I have 2 middlenames and the second one had 5 letters missing.

I have scheduled an infopass for next week in Boston to go and check this out. Anyone had similar experience with type in names etc. ? Dont know how long it will take to fix this one. Need to apply for passport after this is fixed.

Any info will be much appreciated.

Sincerely,

It could be that their system truncates the middle names if there more than a certain amount of characters. For example, if your middle name is "Ganesh Radhakrishnanpulam" it may truncate it to "Ganesh Radhakrishnan"

Time to change the name to Joe the plumber, it is short and shouldn't cause problems :) I think Bobsmyth is probably right about the truncation. However, if you really want to have the entire name spelled out correctly you might need to apply for N-565 and get a free replacement. Nebraska service center is taking about 8 months to process this, and I am not sure about Texas. You probably fall under the Texas jurisdiction for N-565. I don't know if they gave you a chance at the oath ceremony to fix problems, but that was your best chance. Do the Infopass, but it is possible that they will make you go the N-565 route. I hope they can fix your situation.

Fyi,

I got the middle name problem in my naturalization certificate fixed today. Here is some info to people who might get into this situation. I have 2 middle names and the mistake was they had ommitted the last 5 characters of my second middle name.

You get 3 business days to fix any errors on the naturalization certificate from the oath date. All you have to do is walkin to the Boston office (Govt. Center) and state your problem. You dont need any appointment. They will ask you to got to room E170. Just hand over the certificate to the receptionist and explain the issue. They will take the certificate in, fix the issue and hand over a new one.

I had my oath on wednesday 11/12. I noticed the incomplete second middlename only after I left the building. I called the helpdesk and they did not have a clue on how to get it fixed. I then scheduled an infopass which I got only for 11/18th to go to Boston. Even though this is the 4th business day after the oath, they did not cause any issues. After I explained the problem, they asked me to write my full expanded name on a sticky and mark the part of the name which needed correction. The receptionist then took it inside, verified the name with the docs in my file, reprinted the certificate with the changes (they transferred the picture from the old certificate to the new certificate) and handed it back to me in 30 mins.

another middle name issue

I had a change of name along with my citizenship. The middle name was to be deleted and moved to the lastname. The name got moved to lastname but the middle name was left intact both on court order and citizenship certificate. They made me do the oath with the name I had requested. They took the naturalization certificate back and was told that someone would contact me from DHS in couple of days. I had to make the corrections on the photocopy and sign it. Still waiting for them to contact me.. Hopefully they will remember my case and work on it...else it is going to be mess for me. All I have for now is visiting card of the officer who was responsible for the ceremony that day.
