am in des for cp interview. just came in yesterday early morning. went to the embassy to pick up interview letter yesterday - stood in queue from 8:30 AM - 11:00 AM and returned empty handed. postponed medical to friday. went at 5:30 AM today and was 12th in the line - just before 8:00, an official govt car (with red light on top) driven by a cop came up and a young guy with a backpack alighted and went to the first position in the line. It was disgusting. My wife had to hold me back from picking a fight.

After he picked up forms etc. a cop escorted him to the other side and he went in to the visa interview queue also ahead of everyone else waiting there since 5:00 AM. I wonder What is he going to do in the US where his pop cannot help him out for everything.

What can I say - "Mera bharat mahan".

As much as it sounds "disgusting", using power or money to get a leg up on others is part and parcel of life in India, and many other countries. I am sure you saw it before coming to the US. The practice, though not as prevalent, exists in the US as well, largely in the upper echelons of the society.

Previous guy was absolutely right.

In US it is legalized with a well defined process called LOBBYISTS..

It is all the same world-wide. At the lower levels one doesn\'t see it visbly in US but if you go to big cities like Phily, Jersey or NY or Washington all these things exist.

We have to ignore all these things and move on in life. Let us all remember that nothing in life is really equal or fair.

Everything that we see in India happens in US....but because of the population effect (the population density in India is about 10+ times than in the US), you feel it happens more.

plus in US, everything is legalized and given good names:
Reservation in India is called Diversity in US (on basis of increasing diversity, somebody is selected. India has rich diversity inherent in her people, here it is forced by law)
Bribe in India is Expediting Fee in US
.....and so on.

so don\'t get upset. the only way to rise is to become powerful (say out loud and people will believe even if you speak a lie)...that\'s why you hear so much about Israel/Palestine and nothing about Kashmir problem. go to expressindia.com/kashmir live. There were 2920 dead in the US, there have been 3331 deaths since 1/1/01 in Kashmir (1430 civilians+military). but who hears us. anyway, this is not a political forum.

shri ganesh, What non sense are you talking man. Have you tried to cut before someone in a grocery store or mall in US? You might even be arrested, people in US are polite, considerate and decent.

I went to the local post office last week, heavy christmass mailing crowd we actually have to wait in line for a hour, every body was smiling and there was no incident.

There is no justice in India, there are laws in India no one to enforce it. Unless a guy who commits a crime is punished irrespective of his wealth and power, then the country will prosper.

Dont give me this BS about diversity, every day there is murder in the name of religion, there is caste based violences and crimes against women are increasing.

If you think India is so great then why do you stay here, go back serve the country. I probably think you are one of the guys standing in line in front of the US consulate at 3-00Am.

As I mentioned again, this is not the forum to discuss such things. I do not intend to offend anybody. And it\'s not a matter of people being courteous or anything. People in the US are not courteous when they get stuck in traffic jam or at the airport. I was simply trying to defend that not all is bad in India. my apologies to those Indians who got offended by this.

As usual in India, some useless guy with some relatives in Govt tried to show himself as a VIP and get the work done. The Consulate must have allowed this drama for not to get into issues with local police and Govt as a matter of good courtesy in the host country.

If this starts to happen regularly, Consulate will stop such dramas. Individual rights and Equal Law for All is what America is supposed to stand for.

most people have friends/family pick up their packet 4 and are not aware how much of a hassle it is. if you stood in queue for 6.5 hours and someone cut in front - you\'d care a lot too and not indulge in some half-assed social analysis....

To the idiot who wanted me to stop posting - I can do that but I do post a lot of info people find useful too. You are welcome to ignore my posts - if you want to dictate what people post here - you should migrate to Iraq.

And BTW, if the incident in question had happened in the US I would have raised hell - called the super of the guard etc. etc.

God! Simple Security Truth Nobody understands?

Its NOT, i repeat NOT because of "red light" that the guy went ahead of croud.. its a international rule ... for security/risk of kidnaps/murder etc.. thats all VIPs/member of his family are escorted and given first oppurtunity to everything... its true in all Developing countries, including China, South Korea, South American countries [famous for kidnapping! ] and in all former Soviet republics!
So many incidents of Kidnapping for randsom occur every year for these family members of Big politians/Police officers/Businessmen for lax security! Thats why! Not because big guys have big hand-true some misuses.... But we have to accomodate this - though it hurts!
 
 High families in developed countries.. these VVIPs do not even need to appear for interviews.

And about the system here, I Love my India but The people here are more polite than US, they obey their law and they are more patriotic than US Indians, we are just selfish nothing more than that, all these shouting patriots If they get an oppertunity to go and get things done in one Sec they would be the first to utilize it, guys before shouting and fighting about the System first ask the same Q yourself.

My father is planning to go to B\'bay and collect the P4..Does he have to go to Raj Travels and stand in queue or can he stand at the consulate window directly, if he reaches there early enough..
