I guess there are a lot of people in this forum whose cases are pending since long time ( like Year 2001 cases) including mine, and wondering if contacting a local Senator/Congressman would most of the times hurt the case like transferring the file to local office or in any other way. Appreciate comments from people who contacted Sentor/Congress(wo)man.

Hope this thread would help many people in taking this route.

Thanks

Yes, It will be very useful for your case which has been pending so long. But it is NOT useful for those who have submitted applications within last 6-7 months or so.
Therefore I suggest you contact your congressman office for your case and I am sure they will help.

For my case, I contacted senators' office and mine was an old one (around 3 1/2 years).

good luck, aghajan

My opinion

If there is any problem with your case...Like

IF your FP is 15 old contact the Congressman/Senator office.

If current proceessing date is pass your RD..Contact the Congress/Senator office.

If u are just curious about the status then its not going to help i have contacted the senator office 3 time but no help. Same answer wait till your RD date passes Processing date.

Well I dont think contacting a senator regarding your pending case will necessarily hurt your case. In the worst case they'll probably come back to you saying 'NSC is still processing Sep'01 cases, so you will need to wait'.

I had contacted Senator George Allen in January and found out that my case was transferred to the local office in November'03. If not for their information, I would still be in dark wondering why NSC is taking so long to approve my case. I have not received any communication so far from either the NSC or the local office regarding my transfer.

If you are in VA, do not waste any time and contact George Allen's office and talk to Emily Evans.

It was helpful

atleast in my case. I have contacted local senator after 2 years of waiting. I got a RFE within a week. I don't think it will hurt the case.

ok here is why contacting

. these jokers is a waste... they dont even care..

My case is filed at NSC. I contacted David PRice the rep from my area.

2 weeks after I sent in my email to him... I get a written response from him.. that TSC is processing June 01 cases and I need to wait.. attached with it is a print out of the status report that is published by USCIS.. with the EB-485 line on that highlights...

Dang.. he did not bother to read my email completely, he just read the subject line and sent off the standard print out as a reply...

So much for my follow-up .. agreed I am too early .. to be asking for help .. but hey it does not hurt
