medical treatment visa question

hi forum members,
forgive me if i am in the wrong section.

I have a friend of mine here in USA along with his wife and their daughter . they came few months back from india for a medical treatment. they have a 5 years multiple entry visa and presently they have been issued a B1 status for 6 months at the port of entry (sorry i dont know exact technical terms). Anyways their visa and medical treatment is almost over so if they have a follow-up letter from the medical institution (or the doctor) can they come back for the follow up easily or will that be a problem with regards to visa issue.

they are afraid that once they return back they may not be reissued the visa for a follow-up and for that reason they dont want to return back. But i suggested them to go back (so that they dont overstay) and come for follow-up again after 6- months

for this purpose, do they have to apply again for B1/B2 (whatever) in india at americal embassy or can they directly fly and be issued a visitor status at the port of entry

thanks alot for your feedback and suggestion.
I am just a student so dont have a good knowledge in immigration matters

if there is a similar thread plz give me a link. that would be highly appreciated.

thanks again

Amit,
A visa only allows the bearer to approach the POE and request entry. There is no guarantee that entry will be granted. The only thing they can do is attempt a second entry and see what happens.

Ok so they dont need to apply again at the visa section of their home country.

Can they just fly to US after 6 months with a follow up letter and let the officer at POE decide the entry??

this is what i understand

Wait. Is the visa "expired" or valid... if the visa has expired then, they will need to reapply for a new one. They can not attempt to enter the USA on an expired visa.

they do have a five years multiple entry visa to USA issued in india
and when they entered USA for the first time they were given a permit to stay for 6 months. Now that their 6 months is going to be over soon, can they easily enter in their next visit??

Yes, they can come back to the states without applying for another visa as long as their mutiple entry visa is still valid and also if they don't overstay the 6 months entry given to them at the POE by immigrations

But it will be hard getting another 6 months stay, after staying 6 months in the USA and leaving for 1 week...
