Greetings to everyone. I am new to the forum & as such would greatly appreciate help on this question.
I am originally an Indian citizen living & settled in the UK working as a doctor. I will probably be entitled to permanent residency within the next year or 2. I have been issued a 10 year multile entry B1/B2 visa from London 3 yrs ago. I used it to visit my sister many times over the last few years.
I have been offered a research position for 6 months extendable to upto a year in a prestigious university in the USA which will go a long way in enhancing my resume`. However the position is un paid & so the hospital claims that it cant sponsor H1B....besides they arent interested int eh hassels fo sponsoring anyone! They will be giving me a job letter.. & thats it.
From my understanding... I can use the B1 part of the visa to do unpaid "business"... i.e research . But eveytime I have been to the US.. I hav ebeen given B2 visa (for tourism) for 6 months at a time. Once when I had an exam they issued me a B1 visa for 3 months.
My question :
Would it be possible to officially say that I am coming to the US this time for research & get a B1 visa & try for a year.. or get 6 months in the first instance & then apply ofr extension?
Any help would be utmost appreciated.
Many thanks.
