hi folks
as usual i am one of those who has applied for 1140and 485 and happened to take a medicalexam and my skintest(ppd) results showed postivie its around 22mm though my xray is clear .... and this dr whom i took my test from insist that i have to be treated and is going to give me medications which will i have to take for 9months
the thing is my wife was TB patient few yrs back but is fully recovered and all wellnow ...the dr never insisted for skin test (ppd for her)since he said u might show postive note and the skin might form an ulcer he directly took her xray which is all clear too .....

so i wanted to know is it normal to see skin showing post result and xray is all ok
and what repercussion will it have in my GC filing ....
and somewhow i dont see a pt in uncess medicating my self with such strong medications when i do not have an active TB
if someone can help us out
 
I know a friend who meet the same issue several month ago when he got the medical check.

It should be common for people who came from third world shows positive on skin test. Because a lot other countries use vaccines for TB that could leads to positive skin test. US never use that vaccine and take a very restrict attitude to positive skin test result. It is required by law that doctor needs to report your name to the medical authority and prescribe you a 9 month preventive medication if you get a positive skin test and a negative x-ray.

If you meet a stupid type of doctor, he would tell you that you are ill and have to take the medicine. (The stupid doctor my friend meet insisted that too and gave him a lot of frustration. I happen to know somebody knows the whole picture of medical difference between US and other country, and relieve his concern).

The stupid doctors have some discrimination toward foreigners with positive skin test and they want persuade you taking the drug by saying you are ill. But actually it is NOT true and it is just a prevent drug. He has to put this onto the report to CIS that your x-ray is clear and you are prescribed with the medication for 9 month. Nobody will actually check if you take the medication or not. It is up to you to take it or not. But it is recommended you take that medicate to prevent you from future TB development, because it is said that 90% people who took that medication for 9 month would not develop TB down the whole life. But it will not turn your skin test back to normal for the rest of your life anyway.

My friend’s personal opinion is a strong drug could give more harm to your health than the potential TB. The best way to prevent TB from development is to keep your nutrition good and your immune system healthy. If you have not developed active TB till now, your immune system should be good enough to deal with it. You can closely monitor possible TB development by taking an x-ray annually with your yearly health check anyway.

But we are not doctors... You may want to consult your personal doctor who could have a better understanding on your health.

ya i too heard that medications r very strong can have major effect esp on the liver
well there r medications if i happen to get TB to treat them but no medications if my liver gets damaged

well anyways i shall consult a good DR and make decision accordingly
i also wanted to know will that affect my GC ..i mean in future will i GET a RFE etc....

I faced the same situation.. but my Dr. told me the fact ("that you are not ill, but if you take this medicine you will never have issues for life and it is free of cost) very clearly.

I took the medicine for 6 months (well, not regularly, because you can't have any alchoholic drinks when you take the medicine) and they sent me a letter that I completed their course of treatment(!).

Same case here ...

But the actual question remains ... does anyone know of any case of people getting RFEs for new TB test or any other document if they had positive test results the first time? I checked my copy of the medical (I-693) ... it clearly mentions that the chest X-ray is clear and thus should be cleared by USCIS immediately. But it would be nice to know if anyone have had similar situation but got approved without any RFE/hassle.

thanks for ur info but .... do they kind of do follow up like ur blood test everymonth and liver test etc?... i mean u have to take the MED isnt there anyway out ,act i am litt apprehensive ab;t medicating my self uncess

Approved after a medical RFE

Hi,
I got an RFE last month, which is not related to this TB test. It is because the doctor forgot to check one of the boxes in the medical form while filling it.. (What a careless mistake which caused me to wait 2 months longer).

After I got it corrected from the Doctor and mailed it back, FINALLY 485 got approved within a week. (After confirming that they received the reply, I did not bother to check the online status. To my surprise, I found the approval mailer from USCIS in the mail box along with other junk!!!!)

Starting from my I-140 stage, whenever I had any issue, this is the place where I got most help which made me to have mental peace.
