Hi Everybody,

I'm from India and I about to get medical examination done for myself and my wife for I 485 purposes. No official record exists in India for the vaccinations that are required. Nobody used to maintain such records, atleast in my state in India 30 years ago and I'm sure many other Indians have faced this situation too. My questions are:

1. Who do u get a document from in India to show that you have take such shots. I mean what kinda official.

2. Has anybody ever undergone or heard about somebody who was told by immigration people to get blood test reports to determine if he has taken all the required shots including the Hepatitis B or MMR.

Please advice. Thanks for your time.

USCIS authorized doctor will conduct the tests (I think blood test included) and find out what shots you need. So does not matter if you have immunization records or not.
BTW, they charge same amount of fee even if you do not need any shots.

EricS,

Thanks for your reply. I was expecting to file I 485 in another couple of months. If the Civil Surgeon told me to get Hepatitis B shots (if I gets my blood tested, I think he will ), I read that those shots are given over a period of 6 months.

So would my I 485 be delayed for those 6 months ?

:) One freaking hassle after another !!!

No. You need not wait for 6 months. Take your first shot & show the Vaccination card to the Civil Surgeon. He will issue the I-693 on basis of first shot & others pending

The civil surgeon would give you those shots if you havent already had them and update your immunization record. Also, a blood test would be perfomed to make sure you are clear from the infectious diseases. Look here if you havent already seen it.

If your tests are negative, its only a matter of 3-4 days before you get the sealed envelope in your hand,

All USCIS needs is the sealed envelope where the civil surgeon entered all details about your blood test and your immunization shots and the PPD test.

SKIN TEST POSITIVE

I tested positive for the skin test. Do I need to worry. I had to take the chest X-rays. What happens if my chest x-rays is not normal.

Dont worry. A lot of people test positive for the skin test, doesnt mean that you are infected from TB. It only means that you are carrying the bacteria and most of the times the x-Ray test turns out to be negative.

Worst case if your X-Ray result positive, you will be put under medication and you will have to follow up on the progress with your civil surgeon on a frequent basis and this information would be recorded in your I-693. Your health is a priority at this time, not your GC process. Take care.
