Hello

My friend and his wife are both doctors having passed MBBS from a medical college in India. They are currently in Kenya and have obtained their citizenship of Kenya after relinquishing their Indian citizenship. They have been working in a hospital in Kenya for the past 10 years.

Both have done only MBBS.

How can they come to US?

What is the procedure?

Do they have to pass any exams BEFORE they can come? IF yes, what exams are they?

Any other options?

Thanks

1. They need to pass the USMLE step1 and step2CS exams (better even step3). Total expense for the exams is probably around $3000 (+ 2 trips to the US)
2. They need to re-do their residency training in a US program. Depending on the specialty, these positions are more or less competitive to get.
3. They need to obtain a visa for their training period (H1b or J1)

They might be better off trying their luck in Canada. Some rural areas there are fairly desperate for physicians. The authorities can facilitate some shortcuts regarding the licensing and immigration process if a physician from abroad is willing to work in a remote location.

I think Kenyans are eligible for the lottery green card(via the diversity program)

Only those born in Kenya are eligible. Those born elsewhere ( like India for example) but have acquired Kenyan citizenship are NOT eligible for DV lottery.
