Hi all, I would like to take a long break and stay in my country
after stamping. Could I return to US after like 9 to 10 months ??

Someone I know has been maintaining there green card from
the last 20 years by comming to US once a year and stay for 1 month.

I have heard people mention that you cannot stay out of the
country for more than six months if you want to apply
for citizenship. Please post experience or advise.

What if I leave the house I OWN for rent in the US??

Thanks.

GC holder working for a US company out side USA

I am currently working for a US company out side USA and would be away for about 7 months ( paid by the parent company in USA). Will I have a problem re-entering USA after 7 months. I also pay income tax every month etc..

Thanks in advance..

Joef, What if the person travels with the Return Permit.

Could he/she still has to show up within six months or so.B\'coz i read some where that with the RPermit , one can stay in other country for more than a year or so. pl clarify.

Ronson,

Dont worry, I have an uncle who works for US company(Motorola)
and was sent to work in Japan like 6 years ago. He visits US every year.

You are fine as long as your company sends you out to work and you pay your taxes in US.

Joef,

He has rented out the house he owns in US. His company
had obtained some kind of legal approval from INS(Dont know
exactly what).Even though he works in Japan , he gets paid in
the US and files taxes in the US. He does not have any problem.

special deal?

I personally don\'t believe INS would ever cut a deal with
anyone on issues like this --- this is a case law country.
Most likely that is just a re-entry permit, a renewed re-entry
permit to be exact.

I know a guy who has been working in Indonesia for the last
6 years on a semi-expatriate package. Last month, when
he entered US on his third re-newed re-entry permit, he
was questioned by INS at the POE for a couple of minutes,
but he got in eventually and now is back in Indonesia again.

Anyone who wants to challenge the restrictions of US green card
should be extremely cautious, work with an experienced
lawyer and follow procedures. However, it is still workable
if you are dying to work overseas.
