Marrying an illegal Immigrant (In Texas)

I have been looking around. and searching the internet for information on this topic, but i can't seem to find all the right answers.

background info:
I am currently in a serious relationship with my mexican girlfriend. we've been together for quite some time now. at first she didnt tell me that she was illegal because she thought i would have thought differently of her. but after a long time, she opend up to me. She came to the US 13 years ago illegally with her family. her domestic family let her live with an american family who happens to be quite wealthy. the american family supports her through college as well. but after college if she doesnt have any type of visa, green card, then she's not able to work and support herself/nor drive.

my question is:
If she were to marry someone who was a US citizen, than what would her status be afterwards? or would her status change at all? from what i hear, thats the only practical way an illegal immigrant can become a permanent resident/citizen.

oh by the way i live in Texas. and i know some states have diff laws on this issue.

thanks

How did she enter the country? Did she come in on a visa that then expired, or did she enter the country without inspection (i.e. snuck across the border)? If the latter, then you're going to have a tough time and need to talk to a lawyer. The simple answer is that a person who entered the country without inspection cannot apply for adjustment of status.

she snuck across the border without any inspections..
yeah i hear it would be very difficult.

i'm a US citizen, and say i married her. then would she be able to change her status through the process. or what would happen?

Suppose she goes back to Mexico and you can marry her there then bring her back. Or, she can go back to Mexico, then she reenter legally, then you can marry her here.
Is any of this possible? Its just a thought, I don't know for sure.
Good luck!!!

Adjustment of Status is not allowed for people who have entered without inspection, regardless of whether they are married to US Citizens.

There may be ways around this, but honestly you need to have a consultation with a qualified immigration lawyer to find out your options.

Since she entered without inspection she will have to leave the country and you would have to petition her to re-enter on a K1 Visa then marry and file AOS.

It is unforntunate her parents entered with her illegally she now has to deal with the problems brought on by her / & her parents criminal act of defiance of USA Immigration laws.
