Married in USA, live in Mexico - want to start residency status for spouse

Got married in the USA a year ago. Now want to get K Visa for spouse (I am assuming that is what needs to be done).

My wife has a tourist visa and we are planning to go to the USA. What I understand about the K Visa is that it must be initiated in the country in which we were married. Obviously, since we married in the USA it would stand to reason that the process has to be initiated there.

Question: Since my wife is entering the US on her tourist visa. Will we be able to start the process for her residency and green card there (Santa Fe, New Mexico)?

I appreciate any information regarding this so that I can get everything initiated.

Kind Regards.

If you are already married, forget about any K visa. Sponsor her for an immigrant visa.

What Triple Citizen said.......forget K3 visa (though I dont think it's even an option anymore) and go with the immigrant CR1/IR1 visa instead.

It's false that the process needs to be started in the country where the marriage took place- you could get married on the moon and the process for an immigrant visa would still be initially sent to the specific service center in the US. All immigrant visa petitions are sent to a US service center.....your wife does not need to be in the US for this to happen.
Are you living in the US right now or are you both in Mexico? If you are in Mexico I 'believe' you need to establish domicile in the US to apply for the visa petition (or at least have a physical US address that relevant paperwork can be sent to) and you will need to have a job in the US that meets the minimum income requirements to sponsor your spouse (or have the specified amount in savings or have a joint sponsor to help you meet them).
Alternatively, if you live in Mexico you may be eligible to file for DCF and so instead file the paper work at the consulate/embassy in Mexico (this is a much quicker process).
