HI,

I am going to be marrying my boyfriend. He is here on a work visa which will expire in Oct 06 (not sure what name). Where do I begin with what forms. We haven't met with his lawyer, I just wanted to start looking around for what forms.

I am totally clueless to any of this.

If there are any portuguese people who are or have gone through this, it would be great to hear from you.

go I-130 route

you may file concurrent I-130 and I-485 to both petition and adjust. these are filed at the service center. if he is still in status, then you should be in good shape, apply before status expires. they may call you in for interview. how long this will take depends largely on where you live (new york and atlanta are worst). they may ask for marriage cert and other evidence. good luck.
 
Is not filed at the service center...it should be filed at Chicago Lockbox since is about immediate relatives of USC. Read the instructions of I-485 carefully. People get delay because do not send the forms to the correct address.
Anyway I just realize that this is an old post and probably the threat starter is already married...hehehe :p

whoops! ha ha, thanks for catching that cherr. absolutely, it is the chicago lockbox (la salle st?) you must be a SC wizard. good news is-- processing times are down. best of luck.
