Well if u remember me, i posted about my friend jeff about 3 weeks ago. Here is the link for a refresher.

LINK

and we were looking up some marriage info for him and his finance and we came across this at our local courthouse.

"What do we need in order to apply for a Marriage License?

Both parties must be 18 years of age or older. Both parties must have State or Government issued valid photo identification (Driver's License, State issued ID card, Passport, or Military ID). Both parties must know their social security numbers (you do not need to bring the card with you). And if either party has been previously married you must know the FULL DATE of divorce, annulment, or death of previous spouse (you do not need to bring the divorce decree, annulment papers, or death certificate)."

IF u read the link u would know that he has a passport but it was from 1986, so i don't know if they expire or not, and obviously he has no SSN at all, but does have a drivers license....

Anyone know what they should do? They are actually planning on getting married sooner than what I had previously posted, but this is looking to get in the way of it.

thank you in advance

Tell him to take a vacation and get married in Florida then. You don't need SS# here, only need a DL, and passport or birth certificate.........

lol..wow.

i am in florida, thats where i copied that information from

and like i said his passport is from like 1980 something. u think they would take that still?

I don't know if you necessarily need a US government ID. Some people who are not even living in the US have a destination wedding to get married here, so I'm assuming passport might suffice in some places (probably in Vegas for example). I guess you can google "US destination wedding" to see if you find anything applicable to your friend. Anyway, why doesn't he just try it with the documents he has!

Every person legally present in the US, has been issued an US Visa right? that would constitute the "government (US) issued ID" I am talking about. So people that come on "destination weddings" need to have an US visa.

Except the 27 or so countries in the VWP and Canada. The VWP countries are issued the green I-94 card only. I think that would hardly qualify as a US government ID (then perhaps it just might, probably varies by state).

hey

maybe u guys should look at the link i posted on my first comment about him and then reply again, cause u guys are telling me for him to use his documents, but 20 years illegal in the US, all of his "papers" are long expired... i guess they are, im not 2 familiar with these types of things.

I know for a fact that my sister, who lives in Canada got married in Vegas while on vacation - and neither her or her future husband had any visa or anything isssued by the US government when they crossed.

Why doesn't he get a new passport from his consulate in the US, or some other picture ID from his country? I'm assuming he can prove that he's a citizen of his country, right? He might inquire if it's even sufficient to show up with a birth certificate to get a marriage license.
