Hello,
Is it possible to get American immigration based on marriage to a green card holder? I am currently working in USA on H-1 visa and there is an option for me to marry to a green card holder girl.

Please let me know whether it is possible or not, and what issues I might have to face if I marry to a green card holder.

Thank you soo much,
Stewart Rogers

Looooooooog wait

Well, honestly you cannot adjust your status that simple. She have to petition you first with I-130 (might take 5 - 10 years to approve). Only after that you can file for GC.

I'm not a lawyer, pls act accordingly.

The best option is for your spouse to get her Citizenship and then she can sponsor your GC (you will be eligible immediately after she naturalizes). Till that time you will need to maintain your legal H-1 status. The wait time as a spouse of a GC holder is too long (5-6 years) - if Congress acts to extend the V-visa that might be an option (might still entail a wait of 3 years based on what Congress does)

There are no other issues that you need to be worried about (i.e., you can travel, renew H-1 etc.) on your existing H-1 status.
