I have a question
I recently got married to a us citizen and i'm a canadian citizen. My husband is planning to apply for me to get a greencard. My question is if i am visiting the states should i just stay here while he does the application process. Also I have not changed my surname to his surname and just wondering while that affect my application. the reason i have not changed it is because i need to change it in my canadian passport and everything else it takes time. I dont want my greencard application to be delayed. So i'm thinking i can change my surname afterwards i get the greencard.

Is here anything i need to know regarding this marriage based application for a greencard.
I am a bit worried cause when i came to visit the customs gave me a hard time saying i'm going to the states to get married and stuff i told them no ..but they didn't know i was already married.

any suggestions please help

go to www.uscis.gov and check the instructions of the applications.

If you are in the US and your husband applied for Adjustment of Status to go out again you must have a Travel Document (Advance Parole) first.

I don't see the problem between your maiden name and your married name. If your passport has your maiden name is no problem because you have your marriage certificate to proof why you have your new name. That is explain on the forms. If you decide not to change your name there is no problem either, because I think here you can decide to continue with your maiden name or change it, as your pleasure.

As I said the first step you should do is to go to www.uscis.gov read all the applications, download all the forms and read them, you will see that many of your questions are answer from the main source. If you have further questions let us know.

Good luck,
