Marriage to a US citizen

I am a Canadian citizen..my husband and I were married on October 18th 2003.. Following the wedding, on the 21st of October.. i came into the US as a visitor.. with my maiden name.. wanting to file once we got down here.. I am still in the US and our marriage license has now arrived. Previously I was under the impression that I could file for lawful perm resident status from here.. however I have found a couple things where I have gotten confused and am now worried that when we file, I will have to go back to Canada.. Can anyone help me out to be more clear on this?
 
File AOS from US. Do not go out until your case approved or apply for Advance Parole.

If you go out before you file or without Advance Parole, you cannot get back to US until you apply K3 from Canada. So the choice is yours.

I'm not a lawyer, pls doublecheck the info.
