Marriage pictures must for second time H4 in Mumbai?

Hi guys,

I withdrew my H1-revalidation here in US and sending my I-797 papers to my wife in India so that she can get her H4 stamped to come back to US. It is her second time H4.

I am not able to find our marriage pictures here in US and I am not sure whether they are in India or not.

I just want to know whether marriage pictures are must for second time H4 in Mumbai.

Also, what is the exact size of the applicant picture to be affixed on DS-156? Is it 2x2? I am little confused.

Pl. help ASAP.

Since 03/03, the picture specifications have changed. It is as spec. on the DS156 form, which I belive is 2X2.

I don't think the marriage pics. might be reqd. for 2nd H4 (might want to try drop box). But nowadays who knows ...
 
are marriage pics required the first time too? i am planning to do a registered marriage out of India..won't that certificate hold good? my traditional marriage will be much later

I'd suggest taking wedding pictures for the H4 visa interview.

A friend of mine had a court marriage and had some very basic pictures of that ceremony - just the two of them and about 7-8 family members. They simply did not plan to have a traditional ceremony at all.

The Bombay Consulate rejected his wife's H4 application on the basis of not enough evidence of marriage. Apparently, the marriage certificate does not constitute absolute proof of marriage for the consulate.
For the second trial, his wife took an entire albumful of photographs from their reception. The officer glanced at a few and granted her the visa.

I'd suggest taking a lot of pictures of your civil marriage ceremony and providing that as additional proof, if asked. I suggest not mentioning that the traditional ceremony is pending when applying for the H4 visa. Come up with a reasonable explanation as to why you did not have a traditional ceremony.

well what other pictures can one take from a registered marriage? i mean there can't be any reception pictures for me - my fiance is in australia, and the next time i go there,i plan to do a regd. mrg...am not sure the american embassy there will grant her a H4. Do u think the mrg certificate from australia might hold good as compared to ur friend's mrg which was in india?
 
It is certainly possible that the consulate in Australia may have a different policy regarding H4 applications than the consulates in India.

Cannot really compare the merits of an australian marriage certificate v/s an indian marriage certificate. Both are legal documents in their own rights.

The key is to be prepared with more evidence of your marriage, if needed. The certificate is only one aspect of the evidence. Take as many pictures of your civil ceremony as possible, and be ready with them in case they ask. Whether they will ask for pictures in Australia or not cannot be foretold.

well actually after the regd mrg in australia, she was planning to get the H4 from India bcoz , as of now, what travel agents there have told her is that 99 % of all applications from people who are not citizens of australia, get rejected. So my point was taking the marriage certificate from australia to india.. but yeah you are right, more the evidence, the better...thanks a lot for your help goonda?? : = )

You can have the Indian Consulate in Australia issue you a marriage certificate based on your Australina marriage certificate. The question is if your to be wife is going to India for her H4, than why not have a registered marriage in India(I donot know your situation and why you decided to get married in Australia)
 
oh thats bcos i want to spend time with her out there in australia alone..not in india with all our parents around there! hehe
 
I would not be surprided if IIO raises this question during Interview. (Travelling to India for H4 but getting married in Australia unless she has an immigrant status in Australia). Just thinking loud
 
well she has a work visa in australia..we cud have gone for H4 in australia itself, but the issue of not getting the visa from your home country arises...
