Dear members,
I am about to file I-485, but I do not have marriage certificate (MC). I and my wife are from India and it is a long-drawn, complicated and frustrating (more than that fro a GC) process that ultimately depends on offering money. Assuming that obtaining MC is impossible, what alternatives do I have? Is it possible that the INS recognizes affidavits from friends and family who were present at my marriage? I have records to show that my wife is a joint holder of bank accounts, tax returns, home, etc. dating back to 1996. Any help will be appreciated.

You can get marriage certificate from Embassy of India Washington DC or from nearest Indian consulate, speak to them about the procedure to get marriage certificate.

OR get 3-4 Blank copies of Memorandum of marriage from India ask your friend relative to go to any court in India then ask the Stamp vendor for blank Memorandum of marriage forms, once he gets he should ask any lawyer where you or your wife should sign, he will tick mark with pencil and will send it to you, then you both sign the form and send it back to your friend/relative in India, he meets the lawyer and one person will sign as witness on the form that marriage was performed by him or can get sign from any Hindu/Sikh priest, lawyer will get a certificate for you in 1-2 days, just pay the lawyer fees he will handle everything himself. Then your friend/relative can post the marriage certificate that will have the stamp of marriage registrar or assistant marriage registrar (lawyer have also to pay the registrar clerk to get it done in 1 day)

What if you register your marraige here in the USA, then can you use that as a proof of your marriage?

All you need to register your marriage is two witnesses. (i think)
