hi all, I'm in a relationship for well over 6 years now. My GF moved in as a neighbour in the downstairs apartment.
Marriage is not much of a big deal to us, we trust each other, we use each other bank accounts if needed, we help each other. I guess we will marry one day when the kids come.
We both applied for a GC through the lottery. Now I wonder about this:
if you look at the documented facts there is very little that prooves that we are a couple. We dont share officially any bankaccount. We have seperate living addresses (3th and 1st floor, there someone living inbetween us on the 2nd floor. 3th floor acts as my office, 1st floor is where we live)
We dont have a car (Amsterdam, dont need it). All that prooves we are a couple is a zillion trips that we took together (that's all we spend our money on: travelling).
If would win the lottery (either one of us) then we plan to marry, so that the other can join as an official spouse. No reason for us to marry but this one.
The whole point to us is that we can move out of the EU and live in the US - together.
Without wanting to go into details, there's a reason why we live this way. Basically it has to do with the very orthodox religious background of my GF (who is 30+) and her family is not very happy with me being her partner. The less stuff there's documented about us, the better.
But will this be legal? I reckon some immigraton officer might look at the doucmentation (seperate rental contracts, eventhough in the same building. No shared car. No shared savings account -(I could open one, but we dont need it really) etc.) and think its all a bit suspicious, since we will probably get married (or become eachothers spouse in another legal way) right after winning the lottery.
what do you guys think?
