Marriage after getting GC

Thanks to this site and everyone helping others...

Guys,
Right now, I am in the biggest confusion of all time. I got my GC a couple yrs ago and now i met someone in India, who I wud like to marry. the person is very well qualified for getting H1B.

Should I bring her to US on H1b and then start the GC process after coming to US or should I start the GC process from India. I have to get her H1B visa thru a company as that is one of the important requirement (as per her parents) for me to marry this girl.

Can you please suggest any of your thoughts or experiences on this issue.

I am assuming that H1B is the best way to bring her to US. But, after reading all your comments, i thought I should check with you guys before I do anything..

Your help will be greatly appriciated. I am really looking forward to your ideas / comments on this.

Iam in exactly the same situation as you are. I have been trying for the last 1.5 yrs to get my love to US . The long delay of 5 yrs if she gets married to me is not acceptable to her parents ,which is very understable.
The only way out is to get her on H1 or student visa. She tried Student visa but unfortunately didn't get a good score on GRE. My girl friend too is qualified for H1 with a CS degree and experience, but then getting a new H1 for some outside of US is very tough now.

BottomLine : If You are a GC holder, never fall in love or decide to marry someone who is outside of US - i learned it the hard way!!!

2-3 years back, it was easy to get a H1 or F1, but not now.I am not trying to demoralize you , but INS is the biggest enemy of lovers!!!

iam infact thinking or giving up GC and going back to India for good if i can't find a way to get my girl friend here by this year mid.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Well yes things have certainly changed after 9/11 and the economic depression.

about your comment on INS being the biggest enemy of lovers. No they are not. they are doing their job enforcing immigration laws.

do Keep in mind The USA does a favor on you by letting you stay here.

its not my place to say this but.. If you don't like living here you can go home!

Regarding the current situation

I have just visited India and this is my experience:

1) H1B visa applications are being scrutinized heavily because of the prevailing economic conditions in the USA. Counsalate officers are issuing visas by judging whether the person is really qualified or not (a person could have the right paperwork from a company like Cisco and still be rejected on grounds that this company can find someone in USA, this is really based on their intuition and gutt feeling).

2) In Bombay its easier to get tourist and F1 visas. Infact, they have increased issuance of tourist visa by 100% (300 tourist visas were issued per day in bombay up until Jun 2002, 600 tourist visas per day were issued in the months of Nov, Dec 2002). Their thinking is that tourists are going to bring in revenues for their travel and leisure industry. F1 is easy to get provided you have the right paperwork and excellent GRE /GMAT scores and admission into tier 1 and 2 schools (65000 Visas were granted in 2001, this number has reduced to 53000 in 2002).

I am wondering if a girl can come on tourist visa and than get her H1 processed while on tourist visa. Or come on tourist visa and than get married in USA and have her application processed. The only drawback would be that she would not be able to leave the country till she obtains her green card (i.e if she wants to avoid getting interviewed by an officer in her native country). Only 1 question ... can a tourist come and do the above mentioned. Any thoughts will be appreciated.
