It's good to see so that many people from this forum are contributing to the fund. The total contributions have now reached $10,000. Time for little cheers, at the same time, it's time to get more people into this. We are not AMWAY category people. There is no self interest involved in this. We have not spent a penny till now on anything and we are not going to spend the money for any personal expenses or reimbursements. We (core team) all have good jobs and strong principles. We do not need a single penny from any one. The money is only for hiring full time people for the organization and paying for accountant, running the web site , stationary, legal (if required) etc.

Those who haven't contributed yet, please do so today at www.immigrationportal.org . It is only a $100 or so for you, but together, it will be a big worthy money for this immigrants organization.

Made a contribution. What really motivated me was longwait_2001's recent summary of Kashmir's statistics which show how slowly things are moving and what a lot of backlog there is, it makes the whole wait seem hopeless unless we all act in some way. Thanks for the good work!

I am happy to note that the details are motivating atleast some people to act. Kashmir, may be it is good idea to release your data regularly instead of holding it, to encourage people to act. I am sure if we keep providing the data, some day every one will start acting. Anyway, your data is the source for my posts and it is really excellent.

Longwait_2001
 
The total contributions have now reached $11,500 ($8000 online + $3500 checks). Total declared contributors are 89. Some people who had contributed, did not announce in the forums. I have counted the online payments in paypal account and they were 105. Around 20 people made check payments. So around 125 people have made contributions till now.

I have updated the list with all the names from this forum.
We have already reached 25% of our target fund. Keep it coming, folks. Let's not only smash the backlogs, but also get the citizenship amended so that we can vote for 2008 elections. So even if your GC is approved tomorrow, your contribution is going to be spent for a cause (citizenship) that is going to be of help to you.

Most of us are in for a very very long wait.

So the question is are we going to do this silently or are doing the best we can in terms of joining hands with those who are working to make the wait shorter?

I'm not advocating drastic measures, but at least make a monetary contribution and send a few emails and faxes. It's the least you can do.

And please think of the thousands of people like us who will continue to suffer - do we wish this nightmare for anyone else? I don't think so. If you're worried about email/fax campaigns - then please make a contribution at least.

I want to add some personal information, I've been with my present job for over 4 years at a relatively large high tech company and have no worries for at least a couple of years as far as outsourcing goes. But I am pretty sick of the workload and the management and desperately want to go to college and start a brand new career. I've got so frustrated I've started a part-time graduate program in spite of all my work. Those classes keep me going and give some purpose to my life. I think every day about giving up the idea of living in the US and returning to my home country. And I have spent like 9 years in the US counting time spent going to college and grad school and I am scared about not fitting in back home. But a lot of days I think that anything has to be better than the crap I have to deal with at work. I am just waiting for this nightmare to end WAC-02-155-XXXXX.

So I have decided not to be passive when email/fax campaigns are started or contributions are requested. I've written this detailed venting and a personal appeal in case it does some good in terms of fund raising.
