Maintaining PR Status.

I landed in Vancouver, BC in February 2004 from the US. I applied for my PR card and came back to the US immediately. I planning to move permanently to Canada towards the end of 2005.

1. How do I maintain my PR status in Canada, while living in the US.
2. I did not apply for my SIN card - I can go to canada for a few days and come back to US after applying for SIN card.... is it necessary.
3. When I try to re-enter canada... what questions can I expect.
4. Since I can be out of Canada for 3 years in any five years...can I just go back before the end of 3 years and not expect any problems in Re-entering.

I would appreciate any advice or suggestions in this regard and thanks for taking the time to read this post.

1) You do not have to , You are okay till 3 years from landing and then you have to move to canada and live there for 2 years

2) Thats okay , SIN is for working and if you are not working in canada , you do not need a SIN

3) normal customs and immigration questions

4) Yes ! but might have to explain them that you were out for 3 years and now you are moving in ..

Dont forget to provide Canada address of any friend/relative so that CIC can mail your PR card to Canada address of your friend by mail in 1-3 months time, once your friend recieves your PR card on his address in Canada he can mail you your PR card by Fedex in US
