mailing dilema

I live in California. I'm gonna file for IR-1 soon for my wife. And soon that I have to go abroad for work. Nobody will be here at home to check my mail. My friends can't do it. So I'm thinking about setting up US post office forwarding to my sister's place in New York and she will check it for me.
I understand that they only forward mail that is first class (so not junk mails) and that doesn't say something like “Return Service
Requested” or “Change Service Requested”. So please tell me if you think mail from USCIS will be ok. Can you please do me a favor and check your envelopes if you have any from them specifically from your IR-1 application process? And tell me what they say-- I mean, will it get forwarded?
Also, what is your opinion of my forwarding idea? Will I be ok doing this? If things go well, I should just expect notices of action which say that my application has been received and my application has been approved and forwarded to NVC? That's it right..
