Mailed SC application but forgot to put Indian Passports

I mailed application for SC yesterday but forgot to put my indian passport with the package. I work in NYC and was wondering if i can drop off my passport personally. I could mail a new application but the money order of 175$ cannot be reused since it was made out to Consulate. I just got off the phone with someone in consulate and he suggested sending passports in seperate mail, i am worried that my passports will be lost. What should i do? Any suggestions?
 
Since you work in NYC, it doesn't hurt to go in personally and get things done, if they don't entertain you than you may always mail the passport. My 0.2 cents
