LPR Registered to vote! Please help!

I have been married to US citizen for 5 years. We lived in my native country for almost 3,5 years because my husband was working at US air base in my country (he is not military but worked on government/military orders). I moved to the US in March, 2009. In a month my husband came back for vacation and I wanted to get my driver's license so I could start moving around by myself. When we went to local DMV office they asked to provide a proof of residency. I was living at our friend's house so all bills were on her name. One of the options was voter registration. I didn't want to go there because I thought that LPR could not register to vote or vote. But my husband insisted. When we walked in local election office, the first question my husband asked was Can LPR get register to vote? We were told yes you can. The lady took a copy of my green card and gave me a form to fill in. She marked the boxes she wanted me to fill in. In the box with the question about Are you a US citizen she told me to mark yes and write my citizenship next to it. I did everything like she told me. I signed it and gave it back to her. I don't remember why she told me to say yes in that box, I would say she decided that I was a US citizen because I had a SS card, but LPR are allowed to have SS. I was not sure was I a US citizen or not because my husband kept telling me that i was and when that lady sort of confirmed it I thought may be I was. I never went back to that day until I applied for naturalization in July. In November I had my interview with IO, my application was not denied but I was asked to send a copy of my voter registration card and voting history. We have spent thousands of dollars already trying to find a lawyer who knows what to do but nothing has been done. I need to send it back till Dec 29. Please, Please help me!

In all that, you never said if you actually did vote or not. If not, get removed from the voting rolls. Also, I think that you did NOT got to a local election office but rather, only went to a DMV in a state with a motor-voter law that let's you register to vote while applying for a DL or ID. I don't believe thay an elections office worker told you that you were a USC and that you could vote. I think you encountered a DMV employee who was clueless about the whole matter. If your USC husband who was working for the U.S. government abroad had a brain in his head, he would have sought legal assitance back then and you would have qualified for expedited naturalization under INA 319(b)---it is too late for that now.

I think she applied for citizenship based on 319(b). She moved to the US in 2009, so she probably wasn't using the regular 3-year or 5-year rule.

Many Americans, including DMV employees think that green card = US citizenship. Some are even worse, they think legal status = citizenship and noncitizens are all illegal.

Thank you guys for your answers! I never voted! I did go to Local Elections office and the first question we asked whether or not LPR can register to vote? I we were told yes. My husband must be retarded but he is a good person and he didn't know the difference. he thought it was another name for citizenship or something like this. A lot of americans think that if you have a SS card means you are a US citizen. But in fact I didn't represent myself as a US citizen, moreover she took a copy of my GC. I sent them letter right after the interview with IO because I didn't even remember that there was a question about citizenship. They cancelled my voter's card and removed me from the lists. When my husband called them to asked them to provide confirmation that they have a copy of my GC they refused and said they don't have it. And that the only ID I used to register was my SS. Do you know where can I find a list of documents needed to register to vote in person in TN? It happened in TN, now I live in SC. I applied for citizenship based on my marriage.

When was your green card approved? In 2009? Or was it approved earlier and then you moved abroad to accompany your spouse, and then you returned to the US in 2009?

What can happen if i send letter to USCIS asking them to withdraw my application? Also, I am going to send the statement that I don't have any voting history and letter from Election commission office confirming that my card was cancelled and I was removed from their lists

My husband applied for my GC in 2005, I got my GC in June 2006 when I entered the US first time. I stayed for 1,5 month and then went back to my country because my husband was still working there and we wanted to live together. In 2008 he applied for my 10 year GC, I got it in mail in April 2009 when I moved to the US.

Make infopass and talk to the officer what you should do. Send a letter to the IO with papers you got from the election office and just tell your husband that youare only a GC holder and he has to understand the law of the land.
