Did anyone watch CNN's Lou Dobbs tonight? The show painted a bad image of asylees and was especially critical of Chinese asylees, and accused them of fraud. Lou Dobbs has initiated a vile attack on immigrants and now asylees are being targeted by his vicious whining. Again, this is a perfect example of what I call "White anxiety." This man is feeding off the anxiety of middle class whites about immigrants and attempts to blame them for America's problems. The show will be re-aired tonight at 11 PM EST

Lou dobbs has always been against immigration..I believe he said once that Parents of Naturalized U.S Citizens shouldnt be allowed to gain residency in this country...
 
He is infamous for his anti-immigrants stand

He also recently posted on his web the poll against foreign graduate physicians get licensed in US and he lost.

I've noticed before that you believe that American immigration is biased against non-whites. I disagree with you on this issue as you use illegal immigrants as an example (I'm not talking about political asylees that came here by illegal means, forged passport etc). The simple fact is that most illegal immigrants come from latin America and the reason for that is physical access to south American border. If America had a border with some of the eastern European countries I'm sure that the ratio of white illegal immigrants would be much much higher and the policy toward them would be the same.

Another one, and the main reason for me to believe that American immigration policy is not biased against non-whites is the statistics of legal immigrants. Great majority of legal immigrants are non-whites. Take a look at the Green Card Lottery statistics as well. As you are probably familiar with GC Lottery you know that each country in the world that is eligible to participate in Lottery is assigned a certain quota and not one single lottery winner more can be from certain country if the quota is reached during the drawing. Compare those quotas and you will see that in absolute numbers as well as the relative numbers (quota per country population) the non-white countries are given prefered treatment, sometimes even by tenfold.

One thing in your tesis is right though. Yes, unfortunately there are some people and streams among the whites that feel that whites are threatened and who are working to push through the policies that will restrict the immigration of non-whites. However their influence is marginal and not predominant as you are suggesting.

I never said that the immigration system is against non-whites. I am saying that there is a new movment in this country to make it so. Also, the green card lottery is actually called diversity lottery because of the need to have diversity in this country. The majority of new immigrants are non whites because most European countries are doing well and their citizens do not need to immigrate after the fall of communism. The new movement against immigrants is not marginal as you suggested; it is widespread and the Real ID act is a perfect example of that. This movement is gaining momentum because most current immigrants are not white and are being constantly marginalized. Look, many years ago, Irish, Italians, Eastern Europeans and even French came to this country via Ellis Island without restrictions. They were faced with some hostility from those who came before, but they were then able to blend in because they are whites. They were able to acquire many privileges that whites have and then they became the ones who do not want new immigrants. For Americans, many new immigrants keep their culture, which are drastically different from the Euro-American one. Many Americans do not like companies who gave an option for people to talk in Spanish with their customer care representatives. They do not like to see parades of Puerto Ricans or Dominicans or Indians or other brown or black people. They get to the point where they want to take a child away from his Mexican mother because she does not speak English (in California and I have the link). There is always within-group favoritism and many White Americans feel that the new immigrants are outsiders just because of the color of their skin. Yes, the overwhelming majority of immigrants are non whites but this is because of the economic needs of this country. Many of the new immigrants still do not have managerial positions and they lie in the bottom of the SES scale. However, their numbers are rising and this creates anxiety in many people. It is not a coincidence that Latinos and Latinas are the victims of disparagement and humiliation. They basically took the place of African Americans. Do you know why? Because their number is rising and they substituted African Americans as the minority with biggest number of people. Now, I wanted to say in fairness that at least half of the Whites in this country are not as bigoted and xenophobic but they feel intimidated by those outspoken racist pumpkin-heads who watch fox news 24/7. I truly miss Clinton; he lied about sex but no one died and now we have a scum bag that lied about war and thousands died.
 
Yeah Lou Dobbs is fueling hate amongst americans towards immigrants in general. First he started with the illegal mexicans, but he's running out of things to talk about so next in line are asylees and refugees. next thing he'll say is that naturalized citizens should be deported and so on..I tell you what, I am a permanent resident now as a result of being an asylee, but if this anti-immigrant trend continues I'm gonna start filing papers for Canada, in fact I'm gonna do it anyways. The Unites States is the most powerful country in the world, but so was the Roman empire at some point in history... Where is the Roman Empire now??

I think you are out of you mind. This is called freedom of speech and Mr. Dobbs is entitled to say the things he has been saying. And it is is pretty ridiculous to talk of an "anti-immigrant trend." Just check out the number of immigrants admitted to the country every year.
 
Well why don't you go kiss his ass then? just because immigrants are admitted doesn't mean they are "welcome" or accepted. There are a lot people unhappy with H1B visa holders becasue supposedly they take jobs from americans. Others call Asylum "the back door to the United States". You need to wake up and face reality, whether legal or illegal there is an anti-immigrant trend in this country.

I agree there is anti-immigration trend. I was at Kohls the other day and I overhead this white couple saying that how come all the casheirs are Indians when before they were all whites...

I think Americans should be blaming the employers rather than the USCIS..I mean who employs these illegals...big corproations right? even though they know they are illegal?...If that is stopped then only Americans can get back the JOBS They dont really want.

Again you use Irish and others as an example. hat was completely different time, completely different America. You cannot use something that happened such a long time ago as a proof that today whites have prefered treatment.

Again, I agree with you that there are people and forces that are afraid of different cultures and races and that they are working hard. There will always be someone who would prefere his own race over the other.
What I don't agree with you is the perception of the level of influence of those people.

They also ship jobs overseas to China and India (outsourcing) so the average American feels bitter about anyone who looks "foreign." In a sense, I understand their anger, but this anger is misdirected. They should be angry with Congress that did nothing to protect American jobs and does its best for coporations. Besides, is not America about competition and do not Americans champion a capitalist system that is based on survival of the fittest and social Darwinism? Why are they complaining now? I assure you that many immigrants are extremely competitive. 25 % of Doctors in this country are foreign; 60% of computer programmers are on a Visa, in addition to the millions who do jobs Americans refuse to do such as farming, restaurant work, and other services. Just watch the video “A day without a Mexican,” and you will understand.

I'm with you buddy. I agree with you Shamshon on all of this that you talk about in this last post.
However sometimes you mix apples with oranges. Just because there are thousands of people who are angry because they lost their job because of outsourcing overseas and are misdirecting their anger at immigrants doesn't mean that your thesis about general sentiment against the non-whites is right.

In comparison to other majorities in this dangerous world, Whites in this country have been much kinder and no one can ever deny that. This country is more pro-immigrant than many countries in Europe and even the bloody Australians. Trust me, I came from a country where Muslims are the majority and they would never get close to acknowledging their privilege and their racism. However, we live in the dangerous era of the so called patriotism and Fox-news mania. The neo-fascists in this country control the White House and Congress. They are nothing but a reflection of the current xenophobic climate in this country. After all, they are on a winning streak and that is not a coincidence. It is sad but true. I never complained during the Clinton era because he was more tolerant towards immigrants. Even Black called him the first Black president in this country! Just before leaving office, all his decisions were pro-immigrants and he signed an executive order that allowed millions to stay legally in this country. Ironically, Bush claims to fight for maintaining the dignity of immigrants, but he did nothing to help them since he took office. He is just paying lip service for the Hispanics who foolishly voted for him. Ask yourself this question: if the majority of immigrants, especially asylees, are whites, do you think they would be treated the same? I do not think so.

No matter what happens there will always be illegals in this country because the US govt need these people to do menial jobs what a US citizen won't take.

As for Lou Dobbs he can talk as much as he wants nothing will change people will still cross the border and work in this country illegaly.

I have never heard Lou Dobbs saying about the social security money these illegals put in there is almost 60 Billion dollars sitting with the SSA because of these illegals which they can't claim where does all that money go. That is why the US will never get rid of illegals even though illegals use 20 billion dollars in benefits it still leaves the govt 40 billion dollars.

That is the problem with the American people they are very naive whatever they see on the networks they believe it and thats it.
 
One thing clinton did was made a mess. Yes he fixed asylum by having the decision in few months rather than years..However he created this backlog that we all are suffering now. My family member applied for asylum in 1992 and she got an interview in 1997..waited 5 years..However when I applied in 1999, I got an interview and approval in less than a year...If he had gotten rid of the cap maybe i would claim he is the GREAT president..

BUt many ppl like my cousin waisted 5 years of their lives and it wasn't fair for others who just got "in front" of the asylee line..after clinton passed the 1996 immigratino law..

Remember , during his presidency, the congress was controlled by Republicans. Yet, he is the one who faught to increase the cap from 5000 to 10000 as a compromise. However, he could have also done something before leaving office. The problem is that the republicans attempted to repeal everything he did. He really fought nail and tooth with these people.
