lost passport

I lost my passport some time back and have recieved a duplicate passport from the Indian embassy here. My previous passport had a valid h1b visa stamped on it.

Would I need to travel abroad to get my h1b stamped again on my passport or is it possible for me to do so here? I live in Washington DC and have photocopies of my previous passport, my h1b visa, as well as the originial 194 and original 797 forms.

Thanks in advance for your response.

------ you have valid I-94, you can stay and work till the validity of I-94, when you go out then need Visa stamp to enter US( take the copy of earlier passport and page that has had stamp on it to US consulate
Thanks in advance for your response.
